Travel - Mykonos {Part Two}

Part Two of our Mykonos trip. We left Rocabella and headed down to the south of the island for the famous beaches and Ornos Bay where we were to stay at Kensho for the last two nights. {you can find part one here}
We didn't stay long at Paradise, instead hopping around the coast to Platys Gialos beach instead which we much preferred. The water was incredible and there were lots of tavernas along the sand that let you use their thick comfy loungers {I'm guilty of judging a destination on the quality of it's sun loungers and these were some of the best. Across the whole island we only ever saw luxury loungers and cushions!}. I'd read about the Avli taverna here which we loved for lunch.
We sunbathed and took in this view for a while before ordering lunch on the sand.
Moussaka, a greek salad {a must with every meal when in Greece} and giant prawns with couscous.
Before we knew it, 2pm was here and we could head round to Ornos Bay to find Kensho.
It was like we'd died and gone to heaven when we arrived at Kensho. I was here on an undercover review for Mr & Mrs Smith which made the whole thing so much fun. I was Mrs Smith and I had to refer to Ben as Mr Smith for the review.

The interiors were seriously cool with hanging swing chairs around the bar, a hot tub overlooking the bay below and a pool that lit up like stars in the sky at night.
We were spoilt with an afternoon in the spa and hammam, how cool is that herringbone brick floor?!

Ornos Beach was just a five minute walk down the hill with trendy bars, restaurants, palm trees, cactus and the clearest sparkly sea.
Around the other way is a sweet harbour with little fishing boats bobbing around which reminded us of our beloved Corfu.
It was everything we could have wanted from a Greek island with so much style everywhere.
The evenings were magical at Kensho.
We spent our days just staying put, either at the hotel or down on the beach. We felt like we'd seen a lot of the island over the first couple of days and it was nice to not need a car for a bit, pure holiday chill out.
Hotel life, when everything gets folded neatly for you. Man I wish that would happen at home.
We saved a special treat for our last night, dinner at Bill & Coo. We'd heard so much about their gastronomy project, the best food across the island and boy it did not disappoint! In fact we'd go as far to say that it's the best food we have ever eaten. And from my husband that is a very big accolade indeed.

Bill & Coo is set just outside Mykonos town with one of the best sunset views on the island. We were so lucky that it was a clear evening.
We started with drinks by the pool, although it was crazy windy. Mykonos is known for being the windy island year round and I remember that in Santorini it was the same, not good for your hair!
But we're British of course so wouldn't let the wind spoil our alfresco evening. We ordered cocktails and enjoyed the bar snacks {including a little jar of dried hibiscus flowers, so good}.

So, so much love for this guy and our adventures.
We went in for dinner and knew that it would be something special right from the start after being greeted with an amuse bouche under an olive tree of olive oil on olive wood.
And a taste of Mykonos with these little apothecary bottles.
Sitting down to dinner, with the sunset in front of us came course after course of extravagant food. We were asked if we had any dietary requirements but left them to choosing us a tasting menu.
It's been a while since we've been to a really top restaurant for fun food. Bill & Coo make eating there such an experience like a toothpaste tube filled with a feta paste to spread on the homemade bread or little lollypop sticks. The whole evening was incredible.
Because it was so windy the glass between our table and the pool was down so I kept running out in between courses to snap a couple more sunset photos!
Food. Sunset. Food. Repeat.
This sous vived cod with black rice wrapped in a vine leaf was my favourite course of the night. I can literally taste it again now as I write this. Soo delicious and something you'd never be able to recreate.
Four different types of pork followed by a palette cleansing sorbet.
I have the biggest sweet tooth so pudding is always a highlight. This was delicious followed by a trio of chocolate treats to finish. And then we were presented with a tube of salt to take home with us as a little gift.
An evening to remember forever. You must visit Bill & Coo if you're in Mykonos.
On our last day we made the most of the blue skies and sunshine. Our flight wasn't until the evening so we had one last full day to enjoy the beach and pool area of the hotel. We went down to Ornos Bay after breakfast and found a restaurant that we liked the look of for lunch which meant we could use their loungers.
Ben said it's the clearest sea that we've ever seen, which is a big accolade after The Bahamas and the Maldives! Who needs the tropics when you've got the Aegean sea!

We need to start a collection of all of our hand heart holiday photos. This backdrop was too beautiful to resist.
Even the beach tavernas have so much style with hanging wicker lanterns and white furniture.
A dreamy morning spent here. It's pouring with rain in England as I type which makes these photos look even more appealing right now.

Bye bye beautiful Greece. A holiday favourite for sure.
A few people have asked me on my preference between Santorini and Mykonos. I think that nothing will ever beat the pure magic of Santorini and Oia especially but Santorini is really only good for a long weekend as the beaches aren't great. Overall I think Mykonos is better all round but you could also combine both with a ferry ride between the two if you haven't been to either? I'd definitely recommend avoiding peak summer though as both islands get incredibly crowded. We visited Mykonos in May and also Santorini back in May 2014 {posts here and here} which was beautiful for the wild flowers, warm enough to sunbathe but not too hot and not crazily busy. September would also be lovely.
