Happy Friday! And hello again, sorry for being a little quiet on here recently, if you've seen my Instagram you'll know that we've just got back from Sri Lanka! A magical week filled with palm trees, pink sunsets, elephant safaris and seriously good food. I'll be back with the travelogues for that next week. But in the meantime, although we had such an incredible time away, I'm really excited to be back home for a while. It's my Birthday next week {eek!}, the long Easter weekend, the clocks change on Sunday & I'm hoping we'll feel like Spring has arrived at last? I'm sharing some photos below that I didn't get round to sharing before we left last week and talking about the past few weeks/looking forward to the next;

Hello! How are you? As you've probably seen, we're home from Aus and normal blogging has been resumed for a while! I can't remember the last time I wrote one of these weekend/catch up posts with Christmas & then our travels. I feel like I share so much on Instagram stories these days that I don't need to then repeat a load of it on the blog but actually it's nice sometimes to have it in a more permanent form to refer back to.

So how are you? It's November! That gorgeous transitional month full of autumn leaves and cosy evenings before the Christmas madness. I didn't know whether to start these Friday round-up posts again now that I seem to share most things on Instagram and Insta stories but many of you wrote to me saying that stories disappear after 24 hours and that you like being able to refer back to these posts. So I think I'll definitely try for one a month, maybe more frequently but let's see how we go. I hope you like this slightly new format!

Happy Friday! And another long weekend, hip hip hooray. We're using the Bank Holiday to fly to Italy, I'm so excited to visit the Amalfi Coast and I hope it's as magical as I'm imagining it to be. I'm lucky to travel a lot with work but this is a personal trip Ben and I booked last year, it's a place we've wanted to visit for a while so I can't wait for us both to be able to switch off for a bit and escape some of the building dust for a while! I've loved having some new interior posts to share this week, and there's lots more to come. But it's been a while since I've written one of these weekend posts, I'll blame Easter and the past couple of weeks have been crazy but I thought I'd come and check in quickly to catch up on what's new around the house, some new favourites I've been loving {these cute mugs from Photobox} and what I've been up to before I go..

Happy Weekend! Although er, it's Sunday night already. This week has been a blur and I normally write these posts on a Friday but it's all just been so busy. Trying to get work finished before we go away on Wednesday, trying to sort the extension out with lots of exciting developments - the doors getting fitted and the floor being screeded {side note, I hit a wall with all the decisions and stress on Friday, it's definitely all consuming but since then I'm back to loving it again and hopefully feeling more on top of it all} along with organising Mother's Day and my Birthday it's been a busy busy few days! But, Spring has well and truly sprung. The clocks have changed, British summertime is here. There's blossom everywhere and it all just feels so good again. In the past week though I've been reminded twice how life can change so suddenly within the blink of an eye, one being the tragic Westminster Bridge incident. So I'm determined more than ever to appreciate every little moment. More below, and a photo catch up. I hope you've had a lovely weekend??

Happy Friday!! A very quick post from me today as I wanted to get this up before the weekend and before Ben finishes work {his commute is currently from inside our house to the kitchen extension ha}. This week has been crazy for us both and tonight is our first normal night in together since last Thursday! But onwards and upwards, the kitchen has come on so much this week. A photo diary below..

Happy Friday! This week has flown by and I'm wondering where this year is going to already. In my head it's still the end of January?? Which is a nice surprise when you can gradually start wearing less layers and see things budding up and starting to bloom as Spring arrives. I've also realised that I haven't blogged much over the past couple of weeks. The building project is really progressing day by day but it also takes up so much of my time along with life and work projects. Decisions on lighting, decisions on where to put switches, making the roofers coffee, arranging site visits for suppliers, the list goes on. But yay for the weekend. Some photos, a little catch up and thoughts from the past couple of weeks below;

We're headed to Palm Springs this morning! A trip that we booked just a week ago and quite frankly the most spontaneous, craziest thing I've ever done. I'm such a planner, most things - especially travel plans - get mapped out a year in advance so this for me was a huge departure. Ben is the opposite though and is up for anything last minute. I could think of a million sensible reasons why we should stay home and not plan a trip, especially as I haven't been feeling that great recently. But then I thought actually why not, especially after both a doctor and homeopath told me that I need to take some time to switch off and that my body has been under a lot of stress recently presenting itself as a number of health issues. Let's just go, let's make the most of life and travel before we have children and schools to worry about. And let's go and get some vitamin D!! So a call for some flights, car hire and a search on airbnb later and California here we come! It still hasn't sunk in but I'm so happy that I'm feeling better and like my old self again and up for a new adventure. Road-trip time!
Not many photos to post here this week as most of it was covered in our Valentine's getaway and day and the rest of the time I've been finishing off work, watching the builders crane the steels into the extension {a momentous day for rvkprojecthouse, it felt like our Grand Designs moment} and packing. So back very soon, there are a couple of interior/building blog posts scheduled for whilst I'm away. Have a good weekend, R <3 xx
p.s. I've had a couple of messages on Instagram, and even an email, recently to say that a few followers aren't happy following me because of the amount of travel my husband and I take and that I should 'get over' winter because the trips I take are more of a once in a lifetime chance for most people. I didn't know whether to respond on here or not. Of course it's OK to unfollow me or not read this blog, hell I didn't expect anyone to read this blog when I started and even now I write it more as a diary to look back on. I'd much rather that than get trolling messages and I also hope that nobody compares their life to anything that they see on Instagram or even in real life, comparison is the death of happiness. I feel incredibly grateful for so many things in life, but I don't want to feel like I can't post things that make me happy or have to justify every decision that I make to somebody that I don't even know. Should I stay at home to make somebody feel better? I would never dream of commenting on how somebody chooses to live their life. Everyone is entitled to their own little corner of the internet and I choose to fill mine with the memories and photos I want to look back upon. Travel is something that my husband and I love and prioritise, especially before we have children. A lot of the trips I go on are combined with work, which is something I've worked hard to build up. I read SUCH an interesting debate on the perception of Instagram recently on this post, it's worth a read. Have a look here if you're interested. It highlights the positives of being positive, and sharing in people's happiness together which I something I normally love about the Instagram community.

Boy am I glad that it's Friday. This week, in fact the past couple of weeks in general, have been a struggle for me. Mentally but also physically Ben and I have been fighting off some kind of virus and felt so so exhausted. With the non-stop rainy cold wintery weather, hormones, the house/building site, some anxiety and probably a bit of SAD along with the not feeling well with tiredness/headaches all mixed in to one I haven't felt myself at all. I haven't even wanted to take photos or blog or even see family or friends {which is when you know something's wrong!}. Thankfully, over the past couple of days I feel like I've come out of the other side of it and feel so much better. I wasn't going to put anything on here about it but I was talking to a friend and I think actually we all need to realise that nearly everybody can suffer with mental health, on any scale, and really we should never ever feel ashamed to talk about it. There's always that voice saying 'but I have so much I should be happy for' or 'other people have it so much worse than me with mental health' so I shouldn't feel bad, which of course internally then makes you feel worse. I'm going to get some vitamin D supplements which should help for the rest of Winter and focus on alll the positives to which there are many. Some highlights below;

Friyaay. How has your week been? After last week's bit of a blah start to January this week has been SO much better. I think the bright sunny frosty days, started with the prettiest pink skies have helped along with just feeling like I'm much more on top of everything this week. There's always work to be done of course, emails and blogging never stop but we've ticked a fair few kitchen decisions off of my list which has made me feel a lot better. I was starting to get decision fatigued feeling like we'd never get anything organised for it. I feel like once you decide on one thing it starts to guide everything else along. Oh and I also reached 50k followers on Instagram this week!!
As a side note to some of your insanely lovely comments on that post, I'm quite aware that a lot of this blog content tends to be on trivial topics in a sense, the pretty parts of life and very first-world in tone. It's not solving any world problems or going into hard-hitting political news talking about kitchens or spring flowers. But so many of you gave me feedback this week on how you like my positivity so I'm grateful for that, there's a lot of terrible stuff in the world so if reading this blog gives you a tiny bit of inspiration on a grey day or a break from our mad world then I'm pleased. I always started this to look back on so I'm so glad so many of you are along for the journey with me.
So waffle over, a look back at the last week in a bit of an extended form below;

{Spring blooms to brighten January} |
Hello! I'm back to these Friday round up posts after a bit of a break. I realised that I still really like these posts even if their only purpose is for me to look back at some of the photos from each week once in a while. They're a bit rambling but it's quite cathartic to write them especially on a Friday when I'm winding down ready for the weekend. It's a chance to chat about random thoughts from the week, my latest favourite TV shows, house news etc. So, back to this week. For me it's been my first week of January and boy has it felt very January like indeed. After such a wonderful Christmas break and week away in Cornwall last week, getting back to normal and work has been long overdue but not alll that much fun..

Hello! A bit of a bumper post from me today as I've finally got some time to sit down to upload some photos. Plus it's probably one of my last posts of the year! I'm aiming to take some time off next week to just enjoy all things Christmas. It's been mad recently but in a good way. Here's what I've been up to over the past couple of festive weeks..

It's December already!! This makes me all kinds of happy and I'm so excited for the next four weeks of wreaths, fairy lights, carols, fires, gingerbread and alll the turkey. It really is the most wonderful time of the year, don't you think? It's been a while since I feel like I've written properly on the blog and there's so much to fill you in on!

Happy Friyay! I feel like I've been chasing my tail this week and it's resulted in me feeling super run down and full of cold these past couple of days. We are, however, off to the Seychelles this weekend {!!} so I'm realllyy looking forward to the sunshine and slowing down a bit to hopefully make me feel better. It's a work trip {honeymoon research for SYGM} so whilst it won't be a complete switch off, I'm SO unbelievably excited. Ok so no more talk of the Seychelles, a look at my v British wintry week below!

Oops I wanted to get more blogged this week but I've been off and have hardly been home! It's been a nice break compared to feeling chained to my laptop, especially at this time of year when there is so much going on. Halloween, autumn leaves, crisp days and this weekend - Bonfire night! What a week, heart eye emoji! We're actually off to Scotland for a few days tomorrow so today is my Friday, hence why I'm writing this a little earlier than usual. My week in photos below..

I'm just going to stand up and say it. This week has been a BOOOM week. Exciting new work developments for both Ben and I, new gym training that I've smashed this week and actually felt energised and excited for, feeling so much better after a number of colds recently and just generally taking a step back to look at achievements. My friend Lucy said to me, in these exact words: 'You should never ever be ashamed to stand up and say 'I'm good at something!' and be proud when you've smashed it #GIRLBOSS'. Which I wholeheartedly agree with but I do feel that there is this taboo around over-sharing or praising yourself. Where has that come from in this society? Why should we feel bad, or even doubt ourselves about whether we should share in case it comes across as bragging? Or because of fear of negative comments. Even writing this feels a bit too self-indulgent sometimes. But everyone should take some time to feel proud of their achievements every once in a while. Of course not every week is fabulous, and I'll always admit when I've had a bit of a blah week. But this week should be celebrated. Booom. Anyway, in other news... How has your week been? Are you excited that it's Friday?? Some thoughts, and photos below.
