Throwing a summer garden party for Ben's Birthday

August 31, 2016

A few photos from last weekend when I threw a little garden party/BBQ for Ben's Birthday. It was such a gorgeous evening and we sat out until late under the festoon lights without feeling the teeniest bit chilly. England is hardly ever like that so we sure made the most of it. P.S. I know I always promise interior posts and people have requested garden/allotment which I will get round to, I'm just making my way through all the photos of late!

We had around 20 people {with extras dropping in throughout the evening} so I knew that I wanted to keep it as easy as possible with minimal clearing up. I bought wooden disposable cutlery from eBay and used pretty paper plates/cups. I also decided on just one type of food, cheeseburgers as everyone knows how much Ben loves a good burger. I made it into a build your own burger bar with a selection of pickles/gherkins/relishes from M&S and got the rest of the food from Costco. We also had corn on the cob, potato wedges and a mixture of salads before puddings. I always go a bit mad on the puds having such a sweet tooth so we had a big cake, cupcakes, Nigella's nutella cheesecake that I posted the recipe for last week along with a huge bowl of strawberries and a refreshing watermelon cut into triangles. Definitely super easy yet fun for lots of people as a summer gathering. Setting it up in the garden was the fun part and it was so lovely to have people over to our new house/garden at last. This was like a practice for our housewarming next month {with triple the amount of people yoiks}!

Oh the Great British Summer we do love you. We were kept on our toes with tiny spits of rain but that's England right?
