Are you, like me, bored of Winter now? I think that even the bounciest, happiest, most positive person you know will get a little lacklustre at this time of year. It's been bone-chillingly freezing ever since Christmas which has coincided with our house being in chaos from all the building work. Add in the stress with the builders battling the elements to hurry the kitchen along. I'm done with it now, done with having to have the heating on full blast just so you can start to feel your feet, done with having no washing machine or a proper cooker, done with keeping the winter colds and germs away. I appreciate that it will alll be lovely and worth it come April but that's a whole three months from here.
And quite frankly I'm a little bored of staying in now. In the summer there is so much to do, there's the garden, the allotment, days out, picnics, there's sunny afternoons where you can just lay in the garden. What do you do for the third rainy January Sunday in a row when cabin fever sets in?
We'd normally go away around now chasing the sunshine for some much needed vitamin D but with the said extension, we need to be here with the builders as we're project managing it all and Ben will be taking over from them soon. So with no getaway I've had to come up with some other ideas to stay afloat for the next few weeks.. {I don't want to be a moaning myrtle until Spring shows up}

Friyaay. How has your week been? After last week's bit of a blah start to January this week has been SO much better. I think the bright sunny frosty days, started with the prettiest pink skies have helped along with just feeling like I'm much more on top of everything this week. There's always work to be done of course, emails and blogging never stop but we've ticked a fair few kitchen decisions off of my list which has made me feel a lot better. I was starting to get decision fatigued feeling like we'd never get anything organised for it. I feel like once you decide on one thing it starts to guide everything else along. Oh and I also reached 50k followers on Instagram this week!!
As a side note to some of your insanely lovely comments on that post, I'm quite aware that a lot of this blog content tends to be on trivial topics in a sense, the pretty parts of life and very first-world in tone. It's not solving any world problems or going into hard-hitting political news talking about kitchens or spring flowers. But so many of you gave me feedback this week on how you like my positivity so I'm grateful for that, there's a lot of terrible stuff in the world so if reading this blog gives you a tiny bit of inspiration on a grey day or a break from our mad world then I'm pleased. I always started this to look back on so I'm so glad so many of you are along for the journey with me.
So waffle over, a look back at the last week in a bit of an extended form below;

The last part of this mini Cornwall series. Whilst staying in the gorgeous Seraphina cottage on the Roseland Peninsula we made the most of the local area. As I said before, in January Cornwall is beautiful but in summer, Cornwall is beautiful beyond what you could ever imagine. It's like you're in Australia or somewhere with insane beaches and little shacks on cliffs serving seafood at sunset. Even in the winter though there was enough for us to do, in fact we had to prioritise fitting as much in as we could over our short stay. The rest of our stay below and some tips too;

After our stay in Mousehole, we moved up the coast a for a stay on the Roseland Peninsula. It's somewhere I've wanted to visit for a long while, hearing great things about St Mawes and the pretty coastline surrounding it. Luckily for us there was a brand new Unique Home Stays property in that area, a chocolate box thatched cottage named Seraphina and wow she was a beauty.

{Spring blooms to brighten January} |
Hello! I'm back to these Friday round up posts after a bit of a break. I realised that I still really like these posts even if their only purpose is for me to look back at some of the photos from each week once in a while. They're a bit rambling but it's quite cathartic to write them especially on a Friday when I'm winding down ready for the weekend. It's a chance to chat about random thoughts from the week, my latest favourite TV shows, house news etc. So, back to this week. For me it's been my first week of January and boy has it felt very January like indeed. After such a wonderful Christmas break and week away in Cornwall last week, getting back to normal and work has been long overdue but not alll that much fun..

Whilst staying at the gorgeous Herringbone fishing loft {photos of the interior decor to swoon over in part one here} we set about exploring all that the area has to offer. We adore Cornwall with the sheer amount of beaches, cute fishing towns, great restaurants, seafood and countryside but have never visited in January before. It was unfortunate that the week we'd chosen, just after New Year, was especially quiet with a lot of restaurants and shops closed up if not for the week but some until February or even March! Being so far down I guess they're not expecting many tourists in the midst of Winter. The owners of the Herringbone had left us a list of places to visit and along with some of your Instagram suggestions we had a list as long as our arm of places to eat and hidden beaches to discover. Of course some are much more suited to the summer months but we had a fab few days nonetheless. And we took advantage of having some of the places to ourselves, some of the roads and fishing villages are so tiny down here that in the warmer months it can be a bit of a nightmare to get around.

Last week Ben and I took off for Cornwall. It's become an annual fling for us now in January, the very first week after all the Christmas festivities to escape somewhere in the UK to start the year off. It's a special time and helps to sets the scene for January which can be so bleak after all the fun of Christmas. We like to choose a cosy cottage which has to have a log burner and we go with the expectation of bad weather so as not to be disappointed. It is mid-winter after all. In the past we've gone to the Lake District {here}, Norfolk {here} and last year was The Cotswolds {here}. This year, Cornwall beckoned and where better to look than Unique Home Stays for somewhere beautiful {and trusted} to stay. I don't know about you but I often find myself browsing their website just for the interior inspiration, the properties they have on their books are so so dreamy and this one was no exception.

Hola, Happy New Year! I hope you're not feeling too blue now everyone has to go back to normal and there's no more lazy days eating Christmas cheese on the sofa, sob. We've just got back from Cornwall, a tradition for us to start the year off somewhere in the UK and ease ourselves into January gently. Now that we're back, I want to throw myself into house projects again. We have SO much to get finished this year, the builders are back laying some blocks for the kitchen extension before it gets too cold at the end of the week and the spare room is on it's way to being decorated and the floors sanded soon. Today I want to talk about some new prints. Whilst it will still be a couple of months until we'll have walls ready to hang any pictures from, I like getting excited ahead of time and trying to map it all out. It's fun choosing new bits ready for when it's finished so that we won't have bare walls for too long. Swedish brand Desenio contacted me at the perfect time, their website is FULL of all the posters you could ever imagine and they are all such incredible value with prints starting at £2.50.
