Merry Christmas! I'm sat writing this in front of the fire and the sparkly lights of the tree as it's just getting dark outside. There are just 2 more sleeps to go, the food shopping's done, the presents are wrapped, the ham is cooked and we've finished the first tub of celebrations. It really is my favourite time of the year and to top it off, a couple of weeks back we had the heaviest snowfall we've had in years! I couldn't let Christmas pass by without posting some photos of the couple of magical, wintry days we had to look back upon. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas!

Ben & I always take a mini break around December or January, usually it's just after New Year but this year we decided to go pre-Christmas instead and chose the Cotswolds. We love this part of the world and at this time of year it's full of Christmas cheer. The houses seem to go all out with really beautiful wreaths and decorations and with the recent snowfall it was even more wintery and picturesque than we expected. We visited most of our old favourite haunts, with lunch at Daylesford, a wander around pretty Cotswolds villages and Burford Garden centre but also had the added bonus of our Soho House membership coming through the week before which meant we could stop off at Soho Farmhouse on the way there and back. But the icing on the cake was a stay at a new discovery, a stylish boutique hotel called The Painswick. Photos below if you'd like to see.

It's Christmas! I look forward to this time of year so much for the real quality time spent with family, the food {!}, the days that blur into one and the magic that you can just *feel* with all the excitement around. I love hosting, and this year is the first year in our new house that we have a finished kitchen. This time last year the diggers were in ripping down the back of our house so this year feels like such a treat to be able to have everybody round. Every year, my Mum & I plan out our Christmas food practically before December has even begun, looking through all the food to order catalogues, and no word of a lie, we plan a morning of food shopping at M&S into our diaries for one of the last weeks before Christmas to stock up on all that we need. So when M&S asked me to share how I'd host Christmas, I jumped at the chance. After all, this is how I would actually host Christmas. And Saturday was the perfect opportunity for a practice run before the big day. We're spending the day itself at my parent's as always but have a couple of other big occasions at ours, as well as this weekend just gone with both of our parents over for the first of the turkey dinner's this season! I'd love to share some tips on how to make hosting stress-free;

I expect by now that you all know what a flower addict I am? From growing them {on a very small scale} in my garden and on our allotment to displaying them year round in the house, changing with the seasons and photographing lots along the way. I have a pipe dream of one day owning a huge flower farm where I'd spend my days planting and picking, creating huge displays and letting people come and pick their own. I guess flowers are my version of escapism, whatever is going on in life, if you have something cheery to look at and brighten a grey day then they've done their job, if they're scented then all the better. They add colour and interest, I've long said how I use flowers almost like cushions to change the feel of a room and update it with temporary colour, something I won't get sick of compared to painting the walls. And whilst I love getting creative with wreath making and going to the flower markets to choose my own, I'm really no expert when it comes to creating displays or knowing what goes with what. You can always pass off your own as a 'rustic thrown together mix' but then you receive a really beautiful, proper bunch and you remember just how incredible they can look when done professionally. And for me, there's nothing that takes my breath away more than receiving a bouquet from The Real Flower Company.

Christmas is upon us and one of my favourite traditions each year is to make a festive fresh wreath with my Mum. For the past few years we've returned to my wedding florist Charlie at The Flower Fairies to learn how to create something beautiful at her workshops and whilst we've loved the frosty Saturday mornings driving to the Cotswolds to her gorgeous studio, this year our calendar is pretty packed so we decided to make our own at home. After three year's of Charlie's fab workshops I feel like we've gained enough knowledge to 'graduate' and use the knowledge to go freestyle and we were both so pleased with the result. Lots of you on Instagram asked for a DIY guide so I thought I'd put one together if creativity strikes this weekend and you feel like making something pretty to adorn your front door.

Ahh the magic of Christmas. That first deep inhale of pine whilst choosing your tree and bringing it home, the first glimpse of twinkling fairy lights adding such a warm and cosy feeling to a room, mulled wine, lighting your favourite Winter candle, rediscovering decorations you'd forgotten about up the loft and playing Christmas songs as you start to adorn the house giddy with the joy that it's almost December again.
We're early decorators in my family, it's become a tradition to choose our tree on the last weekend of November. Much to many cries of 'but it's not even December yet'. This month always goes in a flash so I want to soak up as many evenings sat by the tree and in front of the fire as possible. It's hassle to get everything out so you may as well enjoy it for as long as possible? We also want to get the house back to normal before New Year's Eve so maybe that's why I like to be a week early as I don't like January with decorations still up? This year, and so many of you agree, that it feels so much more Christmassy earlier than ever? Whether it's because of Black Friday or the way that the first of December isn't until the end of this week I'm not sure but I thought I'd share a few photos of how we're getting into the festive spirit already by decorating the house if you'd like to see {this year it's felt so good to have a whole house to decorate, last year our building work had just started so we were in chaos!}...

Because of this, I've long been a fan of Etsy and have used their platform to buy from sellers all across the world {especially for our wedding and Christmas decorations!}. Etsy is really fab but what's even better are their Etsy Made Local marketplaces which will be popping up around the country between the 1st-3rd December this year bringing sellers offline and into their local communities. You can find your nearest one here. My Mum & I always earmark local Christmas markets to visit together so this year we're excited to go and find some new sellers. I love the fact that so much can be made bespoke for you too if you've got something specific in mind or something you'd want personalised.

If you know anything about me at all, it's probably that I'm one of the world's biggest hydrangea fans. My Grandma jokes that every time she comes round, I've bought another one and potted it up in the garden! Whether it's buying a bunch of hydrangeas from the flower market or filling my garden with them, you may say that I have a bit of a thing for hydrangeas. It's funny because they were out of fashion for so long, especially around my Grandma's era which I think is why she's so surprised that I love them so much. But I can't imagine a garden without them and they feel so French farmhouse. I get a lot of questions about how to grow them but I actually find them one of the easiest, and lowest maintenance plants to keep {apart from the watering} so I thought I'd give you some of my top tips for everything hydrangea. From where to buy, to planting them, to keeping them alive, tips for keeping them in vases and drying them.

It may not feel particularly Christmassy yet but it's certainly getting there and December is just next week. It's also Black Friday in a few days and this week is your best week for online shopping with plenty of discount codes and reductions floating around. It's the best time to start thinking about purchasing any new Christmas decorations for your home because the minute you get into December absolutely everything is sold out decoration wise. It used to be that you can pick up loads of bargains between Christmas and New Year, but these days the shops don't want leftover stock so a) don't buy as much but b) start selling it all off cheap before Christmas. Even at the time of writing a lot of things I'd had my eye on had sold out. But I've made sure that all of the items below are available, some are reduced though so be quick! It's my edit of my favourite decorations for the season, and some gift wrap thrown in too. There are some really beautiful things, to decorate your tree or drape around your home. I love this time of year, so much sparkle, so much magic.

The final part of our trip to New England a couple of weeks back and the second part of our guide to NYC with our favourite {non touristy} places. See Part One here.

Oh New York. I've been holding off on writing this last part of our New England trip {see the rest of our trip to Princeton here, Marblehead here and Boston here} because I just didn't know where to start. New York is my very favourite city in the world and there is just so much to cover!
I was kind of wondering how I would do it justice too, that concrete jungle where dreams are made of. Home to so many of our favourite movies, restaurants, shops. The vibe and the energy. The Pumpkin flavoured everything. The New Yorkers. I love it all. So in the end I've decided to group it into details of our favourite places to visit there with photos from this recent trip {I'm very lucky in that this was my 5th trip there so this time around we didn't really do anything too touristy and instead focused on exploring some new parts of the city and felt like a true New Yorker rather than caught up in the tourist trap of Times Square {we didn't even step foot there this time around!}}. I've written about our favourite food places in this post online here and I'll give you a quick city guide at the end of tomorrow's part 2 if it's your very first visit.

Last week I took a trip to visit the lovely Liz at Blue Sky Flowers to make an autumn wreath together. She didn't invite me there so that I'd write a blog post on it, I just wanted to put this post together to remind myself how easy it is to make one again next time and to have the photos to look back on. I hope you'll find it useful too or perhaps gain some inspiration to create something for your own front door. Wreaths are normally just for Christmas but there's something so lovely about celebrating the seasons and creating one year round too.

Like it or not, Christmas is fast approaching. I feel that there are two types of Christmas shoppers, those {like me} who try to get organised early and get ahead of the rush trying to order as much as possible online before December has even begun, and those who love the mad last minute dash around the shops with crazily busy roads in the days close to Christmas but still miraculously manage to get everything wrapped and under the tree before Santa arrives. This year I've put together this Christmas gift guide whilst doing my own present research in the hope that it will help you to get organised!

New York, New York, the city so great that they named it twice. And also the city that likes to eat, a lot. I don't think I've ever visited anywhere with such an incredible food scene as NYC {aside from Italy although Italy doesn't count as they only have Italian. NYC has everything you could ever imagine}. On our trip there a couple of weeks back, food was a high priority for us and so I spent hours researching the best brunches/pizza/ice cream/tacos etc and after lots of you got in touch on Instagram I figured I should create a guide on here for anybody who is planning a trip. As I've mentioned before, New York is my favourite city in the world and I feel very lucky indeed that this was my fifth trip there. I've rounded up some old favourites and new discoveries below; oh and one other thing to note, anywhere that's good in New York is likely to have a queue! The New Yorkers just literally love to queue for food so if you spot somewhere that's got people lining up outside, chances are that it's on trend and popular.

So how are you? It's November! That gorgeous transitional month full of autumn leaves and cosy evenings before the Christmas madness. I didn't know whether to start these Friday round-up posts again now that I seem to share most things on Instagram and Insta stories but many of you wrote to me saying that stories disappear after 24 hours and that you like being able to refer back to these posts. So I think I'll definitely try for one a month, maybe more frequently but let's see how we go. I hope you like this slightly new format!

After our stay in Princeton and day in Marblehead we drove into Boston to drop the car off {cars and the city don't really mix} for three nights in the capital of New England. I didn't really know what to expect with Boston, everybody who had been told me that I'd love it even more than New York. It's famed for being really walkable, having lots of history and surrounded by water. After visiting myself, I realised that you can't compare the two {Boston and NYC}. And in fact I read this which rings very true;
' Don't compare Boston to New York City, at least not unfavourably. Bostonians spend considerable energy trying to prove their city is not inferior to Manhattan whether in national influence, cultural offerings or American League baseball franchises. The truth is that Boston is not at all like New York and that's a good thing. The largest city in New England is compact, clean and easily navigable. Boston is best appreciated as a small city with a hyper-eduated populace, an astonishing number of Dunkin' Donuts and an artistic and historical importance far surpassing its relative size'.
We definitely saw a million Dunkin Donut shops! If you go there expecting it to be like New York or better than New York then I don't think it will be. New York is just so unique, but if you visit and enjoy the wide Charles river with all the sailing boats, Harvard university, the Back Bay area, seafood and smaller scale shops then you will indeed love it. It's more relaxed too, not as crazy as the city that never sleeps. We had one full weekend and here's how we spent it;- November 02, 2017

It's halloweekend! {y'know the weekend before Halloween?!} and a time for all things pumpkin. I made this cake last night and had so many messages asking for the recipe that I thought I'd post it this afternoon quickly in case you're looking for something to bake this weekend. We have friends coming tomorrow for lunch and family over for dinner on Sunday so this was the first of the cooking for it. I think I caught pumpkin fever over in America a couple of weeks back and have wanted to eat everything pumpkin spiced ever since. This cake/bread recipe which I adapted from an American website fits the bill and makes a really soft {I would say moist but I detest that word} cake which will last for a good few days in a tin {if indeed you can resist eating it all straight away}. I used a bundt tin but also had enough left to half fill a loaf tin so we could try some first.

If I was starting this in chronological order I should really be telling you all about our five days in New York that came before this trip to Princeton, New Jersey. But I have about six hundred photos that I've narrowed New York down to so far and so starting with these lower key couple of days first seemed preferable. {A NYC full city guide will be coming soon though}. We planned this trip last October when my husband & I had airmiles to use up and New York is one of the places that they are easiest to book seats with, there being multiple flights per day there. Which was lucky for me as it's one of my favourite cities in the world. So we decided to fly in & out of there {more on that in the NYC post} but as we'd visited a few times before, wanted to add something different on to it this time. More small town America {in particular for all things Fall and Halloween!} so our first stop was Princeton, an ivy league university town just an easy train ride out of the city where we could then pick up a car for heading North. Technically New Jersey, south of NYC, probably doesn't count as New England as much as say Vermont or Maine would do further North? But to us it felt just like it and we really hit the jackpot on planning this 2 night stop, it was probably our very favourite part of the trip. Small town America really is magical, especially after we'd spent five days gallivanting and walking our socks off around the hectic city that never sleeps! So; a travelogue of our stay below if you'd like to see. Including the most amazing pumpkin farm!

This is a little bit of a different blog post from me today. I mean, similar kind in thing in terms of I'm talking about interiors and how to update your house for the changing seasons {this time cosying up your bedroom for the winter months ahead} but if you're wondering why my hair is curled and I'm wearing more make up than normal, and my bedroom is lit all weirdly it's because I was filming for an exciting M&S campaign a few weeks back! You might have seen some of the behind the scenes stuff on my Instagram? It was a really fun day and such an insight into the world of production. You can see the final video in the link at the end of this blog. I'd love to share some tips with you on creating a bedroom that feels like a sanctuary as the darker evenings roll in.

Is there anything that screams October and Halloween more than pumpkins do? And is there anything more instagrammable for those autumnal few weeks of the year more than the mini white variety? If you know anything at all about me it's probably that I'm pretty mad on this time of year {one of the reasons we're flying to New York tomorrow is for their fall celebrations and pumpkin farms} and in particular growing pumpkins ourself at our allotment. I've been posting photos of our harvest recently and been getting so many messages asking if I'll write a blog post about how to grow them. So here are my tips, talking every stage of the growing process along with all of our favourite types, which incidentally have super cute names, from Baby Boo to Jack be Little to Crown Prince.

Now that the autumn has rolled around and our kitchen is finally finished, we've been hosting dinner parties again. Dark evenings where you light all the candles and enjoy cooking new recipes for family & friends. I always love creating new easy listening kind of playlists as the seasons change, somehow summer BBQs feel have a different vibe compared to autumnal nights spent indoors and therefore need new music. I get asked quite a lot for Spotify recommendations so today I thought I'd share with you my favourite playlist I've created especially for dinner parties that we listen to all the time and tell you about the new Panasonic HC1020 that we've been using to play music around our house.

Hello! Sorry for the lack of blogging recently, it's been a crazy couple of weeks. We've just got back from a long weekend in Barcelona {more on that next week} and also my mac is in for repair needing a new hard drive, sobs! Blogging just isn't the same without it and takes me twice as long. Anyway, I wanted to share that today a mini house tour of ours is featured over on Keepmoat Homes inspiration section today {online here}
And also I never got round to finishing our Utility room makeover. When I last posted about it, way back at the end of May when summer was just beginning, the bare bones were in but nothing was quite finished. You can see that post where I left off here. Since then, it's all pretty much complete! I think the only thing we need now is a blind for the window and door. So this is part two with all the finishing off and some recent photos.

I've been meaning to write a garden update for an age now. But as per usual, time has escaped me and now it's the middle of September! But actually it's pretty good timing as I probably left you talking about the garden this time last year? So I can go through, month by month with what we've planted when, what kind of jobs you should do seasonally and of course it's a good excuse for me to share a load of photos of the garden evolving and growing through the seasons. It's mad looking back on last November now when it's all looking so full, yet that time will be here before we know it and I've already started on buying bulbs ready for Spring! So here you have it, the long requested full guide to hashtag rvkgardenlove ....

Part two of our trip to Mauritius a couple of weeks back - you can see part one here. We second honeymooned {if that's not a thing, I'm making it into one...} at Constance Le Prince Maurice back in 2015 and have struggled to find a resort to beat it ever since. So whilst we were out in Mauritius with a work trip we tagged on a stay at LPM for the rest of our trip and it was even better than we remembered. The service, the incredible staff {most of which we remembered from the first time and have been here for 20 years plus}, the food - oh the food!!, the pure luxury, the pool, the floating restaurant with the shark swimming around and the pink sunset skies. It was a completely blissful few days where we did very little {and a ate a hell of a lot! The lunches we had just on the beach here in our swimwear were some of the best we've ever ever eaten.} We took bikes out a couple of times to cycle through the local villages and to experience a market, but other than that we took the time as a complete switch off, just reading, walking along the beach, sunbathing, eating the aforementioned most incredible food and having time to just talk properly without any distraction and make plans. It was pure paradise. The kind of holiday where by the end you were so well rested that you're actually ready to come home {which almost never happens!}. Photos for me to look back on below which you're welcome to have a peek at if you'd like... {and if you're looking for a full review I wrote about this resort for So You're Getting Married here a couple of years back}

If you follow me on Instagram, you'll have seen that we took a little break to Mauritius a couple of weeks back. It was partly for work {I was honeymoon reviewing at Shangri La's Le Touessrok for So You're Getting Married - you can read the full article here if you'd like to see} but also a much needed switch off. We split our time between two different resorts, one new and one old favourite of ours that we'd been to before which made the whole thing feel so much longer - almost like two holidays in one! It was the most relaxed we've felt in months and when we came home a couple of people independently told us how well we both looked! It had been a particularly busy summer along with a lot of visits to the hospital which thankfully is now all ok so it felt so good to take some proper time out. I've written all about our stay for SYGM but I wanted to post all of my favourite photos from the trip below because looking back on them it just all seems like such a dream already {and you all know how much I love to use this blog to look back on photos on those dark winter days}. Part One below with alll the tropical island vibes.

I find that sleep can make or break you. When I've had enough sleep I feel ready to conquer anything and have so much energy that I feel I need to burn off before I can even think about going to bed. But when I'm exhausted, I just want to curl up and well.. sleep - I'm less productive, feel hungrier and definitely notice my immune system drop when I'm tired - not good with all the winter bugs coming up. I always find that I sleep so much better in hotel beds so recently I've been on a mission to make our own bed as hotel like as possible {and I've honestly been looking forward to going to bed, and waking up really refreshed, every night since!}

My husband hates stuff. So I know better than to buy him anything tangible for his birthday which was last week, instead the key to his heart is either a} a nice break away or b} food. So I combined both and booked to take him to The Pig Hotel, one of our favourites in the UK. They're known for being a restaurant with rooms and we love the kitchen garden to plate philosophy. We've stayed at this Pig, on the beach, before for our first wedding anniversary {blog post on that here} so I thought I'd surprise him by taking him back and treating him to a massage and dinner. After a tough couple of weeks with Ben having to visit hospital a number of times and have some operations to remove minor skin cancer/sun damage it was the perfect tonic and suddenly everything seemed ok again.

Happy Friday! I'm excited to share some photos of a shoot that Binky Nixon came to do a few weeks back if you'd like to see? I guess you all know just how much of a thing for photos I have. This blog is built upon it. I'm not skilled technically at taking photos myself but I just love how much a photograph can capture. So much more than my mind can ever remember, looking back at them always makes me smile and to have a set of professional images that captures everything that I love is really special.

I feel a bit silly writing this post with photos from way back {June!!}. I feel so behind with the blog at the moment but I'm always like this in summer, wanting to be outside more and not having enough time to log onto my laptop as much as I should. Where have the last couple of months gone to?! It feels like it's flown by but equally it feels like we've been living in summer forever and a day. I realised that I have some photos I haven't yet published and I know I'll want to look back at. I've got out of the habit of writing my weekly catch ups and I'm missing having a steady stream of my photo diary on here. This post is really just for me to look back on them before they disappear onto the cloud/some huge photo album on my laptop that I'll never get around to looking through. So apologies for the self indulgence, back to house renovating/garden blog posts again next!

Last week we took another little staycation. This time to The Cotswolds. The Cotswolds are one of our very favourite areas of the UK. Chocolate box villages, rolling fields and the farm shop of all farm shops - Daylesford. I mean, I love the seaside but The Cotswolds is always the perfect short break from us as it's only just over an hour away so you don't feel like you're wasting half the day in the car to get there. We stayed in Little Cotswold Cottage - an insanely beautiful boutique cottage in Great Rolling {just ten minutes from both Soho Farmhouse and Daylesford}. The location was amazing and so was the weather - being England we experienced both a pouring with rain day {perfect for cosying up} and then a bright sunshine day. I'd love to share more photos below if you'd like to see.

This post has been a longgg time coming but I finally sat down to go back through all the photos from the last few months, since May, with the kitchen being fitted. The last time I left you with a kitchen update was on this post {with all the painting/floor going down etc}. Since then, we've pretty much finished everything off. So this post is an update of all the finishing bits, starting with the kitchen herself being fitted!

Sorry, sorry I owe you about a million blog posts right now - the garden/new greenhouse and garage/the patio area with the gravel you always ask about/the snug room/the kitchen makeover post that I've owed you forever/the shoot with Binky from a couple of weeks back of which I love the photos of our allotment/growing flowers specifically hydrangeas and roses/fashion updates/interior styling. And I can't wait to be back on my laptop properly to get sharing. But this past week has been a little hectic so I bought you some flowers instead. There's been a lot of excitement recently, a big feature in the Sunday Times {I'm still pinching myself. The Sunday Times Home section, me?!}, and a shoot with Rock my Style today for an updated house tour. Tomorrow we're heading to The Cotswolds for a couple of days which ironically was to try and make the most of summer but it looks like a month's worth of rain forecast in one day! But right now my Macbook is about to go to sleep and I've got the new 'Trust Me' series to watch. But back soon, I promise. And as always you can find me on Instagram in the mean time. R <3 xx

At the start of the summer, back in May I think it was, Ben and I looked around at the beautiful countryside and realised that summer is of course the very best time of year for England yet we always tend to have our mini breaks in January {or we spend our holidays abroad somewhere}. WHY?! I think we always just write off the summer at home because we think it will either be pouring with rain or it's the school holidays and everywhere would be full of kids. But actually to see England at her very finest, June and July are the best time of the year. Especially at the seaside. So we decided to take a couple of days break just before the main schools broke up and headed to Norfolk and Suffolk. We hadn't been for ages but whenever we have visited previously, we've loved it. So I searched on Airbnb for a cute little abode where we could base ourselves and found Ivywood Cottage - {use this for £30 free credit towards it}. It looked perfect and practically right on the border of both Suffolk and Norfolk so we could explore both areas. We only had two nights away but sometimes that's all you need for a little refresh and we loved being back at some of our favourite beaches and seaside towns.

One of the big decisions in any renovation is heating. So many people these days seem to go for underfloor heating so as not to have to worry about taking up wall space with radiators. But we've never been a fan of underfloor heating. My parents have it and it seems to be either boiling hot or cold, it takes a while to respond so if you're too hot then it takes ages to cool down. We're not people for a boiling hot stuff house either. There's the risk of it going wrong too and you having to dig up your whole floor. Obviously a lot of people do like it, and I'm not saying not to go for it. In a lot of houses it's the right option and it would be lovely to have toasty warm feet {side note - it's not great for plants on the floor or any food, my parents can't put food christmas presents under the tree because the floor gets warm}. It's just we much prefer old fashioned central heating with thermostatic valves that are easy to control. We recently had Hive installed too which means we can control it from our phones and switch it on before we come home etc. But what I wanted to share today is our love for old fashioned radiators.

Summer dresses are my very favourite thing to wear on holiday/when we have warm weather in England. I don't think you can beat a dress really, there's nothing else to think about, just chuck it on and you've got an instant outfit. I guess you could call it lazy dressing yet when you wear a dress it just feels like you've made an effort. They're feminine and there are so many different options, mini, midi, maxi. Sundresses, shirt dresses, floaty dresses, fitted dresses, with sleeves or without, plain or patterned. You may have guessed that I wear a lot of dresses when on holiday and it's something you guys on Instagram seem to comment on a lot. One of you lovely ladies requested a summer clothes update on the blog and whilst I appreciate that in fashion terms all of the shops are transitioning into Autumn already, I wanted to share what I've bought recently for the rest of the summer and to wear again next year. I try and buy things that will last for a good few years at least or it seems like such a false economy. This is part one with Fat Face's gorgeous new transitional collection to take you into August/September but again will be great for next summer or any summer holidays you have coming up. They're killing it this season I think, there are so many things I adore! Part two up next week with the rest of the high street.
