Father's Day // Gift Inspiration with notonthehighstreet

May 30, 2018

Morning! I hope you're having a lovely week so far? I can't quite believe that we're so close to being in June already. May has flown by and suddenly it's time to think about Father's Day which is fast approaching {Sunday 17th June this year}. My Dad will always say 'don't get me anything' for both Birthday's and Father's Day - I think it's a Dad thing?, but my brother & I want to at least get him something thoughtful or fun as a reminder of how much he means to us. It was his Birthday a couple of weeks back and he was away for it, so I wanted to combine both for a joint celebration in the middle of the two dates. For unique, personalised gift ideas I turned to notonthehighstreet {a brand I've loved for years and years} and was so thrilled when they had such a big range of BBQ products to choose from. My Dad is a total BBQ king and some of my happiest memories together have been him cooking a BBQ for us all with family and friends over the years, whether it's pouring with rain in the middle of March {we start early!} or a balmy hot summers evening, at home or on holiday, you can find him outdoor grilling. I was so impressed with the wide range of personalisable gifts to choose from to celebrate him, and all of the years of him BBQing for us. You can see more below;

I think that men, and Dad's in particular, can sometimes be really hard to buy for. Retailers tend to fit men into quite distinct categories - gardeners, beer drinkers, sport fanatics or car enthusiasts. Which is great if your Dad fits into one of those, but my Dad, as I'm sure yours, deserves to have something which is perfect for him rather than a stereotype. There are so many things that he loves, golf is his biggest obsession closely followed by our family dog Riley, his chickens, his lawns, red wine and definitely BBQing.

I was spoilt for choice when browsing the notonthehighstreet website with so many incredible ideas for gifts for Dads. Some of which I've bookmarked for next time, or Christmas! I love how they have different sections whether you're gifting from a younger child or older, from your pet {adorable and hilarious!} or even if they're not quite a Dad yet but there's a bump brewing. There are personalised options to make a gift extra thoughtful, experiences if you'd rather do something together and everything for a wide range of budgets whether you're looking for a little token or to spoil him rotten.

I decided on the BBQ theme as it's something that really brings our whole family together throughout the summer and nobody cooks chicken like my Dad. We call it his special chicken, I can be quite fussy about meat but he nails it every single time with really flavoursome yet never dry chicken breasts and the best pitta breads ever. My brother's favourite are his steaks.

From left going clockwise;

2. Chateau Style Personalised Wine by Bottle Bazaar £20

3. Circular BBQ King Chopping Board by Dust & Things, £28

4. Slate Chicken House Sign by Winning Works, £28

5. Personalised Apron by Betsy Benn, £40

6. Portable Pizza oven by Garden Leisure, £79.99

7. Personalised BBQ branding iron by Hunter Gatherer, £35

I thought this branding iron was such a good idea, it comes with a bag of letters so you can switch up your message each time and stamp your seal of approval onto the cooked food. You can pick a message for the wooden handle too.

I chose a Malbec for the personalised chateau style wine, one of my Dad's favourite types of red and something that goes well with BBQed meat but there's everything from champagne to rose to different whites. You can choose your message on the front along with initials and a date. It's such a gorgeous gift which comes wrapped in tissue ready to gift for every occasion.

I adore thisround wooden chopping board, for prepping meat {he used it at the weekend for bashing the steaks down to tenderise them} but also for looking smart in the kitchen when not in use.

The pizza oven was a huge hit to turn any BBQ into a pizza oven. We knocked up some garlic bread quickly and heated this up on the BBQ before we cooked the meat, but we've already ear-marked a date for a full on pizza evening with it. It cooked so fast, in just minutes and has a handy temperature gauge on the top.

My Dad loves to add flavour and is always looking for new BBQ marinades or rubs {he stock-piled 'Butt Rub' whilst in America earlier this year!} so I thought that he could make his own with this easy BBQ spice kit.

Every chef needs an apron and this one is suitably manly with the navy and tan leather pockets. I decided to add all of our favourite things that he cooks onto it but you could also list ingredients for his favourite recipe. Richard's sausages {the name of our butcher who makes the best pork sausages in the world, we refuse to buy any others!}, Dad's famous chicken, steaks, garlic brushed pitta breads and corn amongst others.

Alll the Dad's and three generations on Sunday, my sweet Grandpa.

We had such a lovely Bank Holiday Monday evening getting everyone together and Dad as the BBQ master. He was thrilled with the gifts and they're all something that he'll enjoy using {and drinking!}.

And lastly, not exactly BBQ related but my parent's are getting chickens again this week after a few years of not having any. My Dad calls the hens 'his girls' and so I couldn't resist this slate sign for their new house.

A few other gift ideas that I spied;

A pet photoshoot session
. If anybody knows how much my Dad is besotted with our dog, this would have been hilarious and made for some adorable photos.

A smart cut glass tumbler for gin, or whisky drinkers {something my Grandpa would love!}. Or this more modern version.

A sweet family welly boot print for your hallway, or downstairs loo.

Personalised oak and brass egg cups, for breakfast at weekends together.

If you share a love of a sports team together, this print would be perfect for his desk

Matching dog bow-ties? Because I'd DIE seeing my Dad and Riley together in these

For golf fanatics, personalised balls

Something that has meaning along with looking good in your home, this framed print of special places.
