Happy Valentine's Weekend {and a cookie recipe}...
February 13, 2015{Ranunculus from my Valentine at Columbia Road Flower Market} |
Happy Valentine's Weekend! How lovely that it falls on a Saturday this year. What have you got planned? A cosy dinner in for two? And how was your week? We've been dog sitting this week while my parents are away which I always love as I'm his favourite person in the world when they're away, too too much love for that little pup. Monday actually felt like Spring, it was so sunny and warm. The rest of the week has been pretty cold and grey but at least it gave us some hope. And I've been working at my parents house which is always so much warmer than our old Victorian terrace and means I can take lots of dog walk work breaks. I'm excited for this weekend...

Also this week on the blog I've been working on fixing the broken images, should be all finished v soon so no more white blank boxes thank god.
Next week as requested by lots of you, a post on our kitchen scaffold board shelves at last and a Tanzanian Safari adventure!
Also, Fifty Shades of Grey comes out today! Are you going to watch it? I'm going with the girls next week, can't wait to see it.
Have a lovely weekend.

And a little extra - last year on Valentine's day I made these little sugar cookies, if you've got half an hour today for a little baking session:
There will be loads of shopping guides with expensive present suggestions for your Valentine in magazines and on blogs but sometimes the best option is a handmade one, Sweets for my Sweet... Last year I made these easy sugar cookies and gave lots to Ben but also bagged them up for the rest of my family and friends.
I just used a basic sugar dough recipe from the BBC:
100g Unsalted Butter, softened at room temp
100g caster sugar
1 free range egg, lightly beaten
275g plain flour
1tsp vanilla extract
1. Preheat the oven to 190c/Gas 5. Line a baking tray with greaseproof paper.
2. Cream the butter and sugar together in a bowl until pale, light and fluffy.
3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract, a little at a time until well combined.
4. Stir in the flour until the mixture comes together as a dough.
5. Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to a thickness of 1cm/1/2inch.
6. Using biscuit cutters, cut the biscuits out of the dough and carefully place onto the baking tray.
7. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until pale golden brown. Set aside to harden for 5 minutes then cool a wire rack.
Now for the fun part, Icing!
Use 400g Icing sugar with 3-4tbsp water. Sift into a large mixing bowl and stir enough water to create a smooth mixture. Stir in the food colouring until you like the colour.
I dipped each biscuit face down into the bowl of icing, minimised mess this way and then sprinkled hundreds and thousands on top.
