Decorating for Christmas {with The White Company}

December 12, 2016

Deck the halls with boughs of holly... Do you remember my deck the halls christmas blog posts over the past couple of years with our old house? {here and here}. Well this year it's all about decorating our new house for the season. Fa la la la la la... It's been so exciting to have new space to decorate and come up with some new ideas this year... Tis the season to be jolly....

{The hallway - }

We don't have a kitchen or dining room/snug to decorate this year so we've focused on decorating the hallway with our beloved sweeping staircase and the lounge. We decided to get an extra tree this year and bought a living spruce from the garden centre so hopefully it will survive outside afterwards and get taller and taller each year. I'm still not over my sledge/skates obsession so I've used them around the trees and in the hallway. We've raised the tree up on a sledge we got at Ardingly antiques a few weeks ago.

This display was inspired by the skating display at Fortnum's Lodge at Somerset House last year.

The stairs looked bare without a garland so I turned to The White Company {where else?!} for this eucalyptus, pine and winterberry garland to adorn the banister. Everybody who's come in so far has thought that it's real which is always a bonus in my book. I wrapped some lights around it to make it sparkle.

The garden and house may be a building site but yay for festive entranceways..

{The Lounge - }

I've posted about choosing the Christmas tree {here} so now it's my favourite sparkly part. DECORATING! I've been collecting baubles and decorations over the years, the first I remember on a post Christmas trip to Bath with Ben. We discovered The White Company's epic sale and bought nearly all the shop. Since then it's been trips to TK Maxx and Christmas fairs to collect the rest, I tend to stick to silvers and whites. This year because we've got higher ceilings in this new house we could fit in a bigger tree so I decided I should treat myself to some new decorations. I went for these, these and these - the embroided grey snowflakes have sadly sold out.

We always start with the lights. Although I do love a naked tree.

We turned them off for dressing the tree, that way it's easier to pass the wire around but also then when you turn it on at the end, you feel that magical wow. I literally wowed out loud this year as our new lights are so much brighter than we've ever had before. It literally shone!

Ben adds the lights and then it's my turn to embellish with baubles. I personally prefer to have a tree underdressed than over, I like having gaps just with greenery and lights. And in our hallway I've left it bare completely this year.

I got this calligraphy B&R decoration at The White Company's press day back in the summer and it's probably now my favourite on the whole tree.

I've always loved paper snowflakes and whilst I haven't put quite as many up this year {it's a lot harder without spotlights in the ceiling to hang them from} we've strung some from fishing wire across the curtain pole to add an extra dimension to the decs.

I got them from TWC last year, I don't think they've sold them this year but try ebay etc.

For scent at Christmas, I've long been a fan of Winter. There's just nothing else as warm or Christmassy, even when they're not lit you get that heavenly smell wafting around that just makes you feel festive. I've got this huge three wicked Botanical large candle as well as the classic on my mantle.

It feels so cosy with our new log burner. Just in time for December. I don't want these magical days to end, I love curling up here in the evenings as soon as it's dark.

Oh and I almost forgot, the stockings! In my parents house it's always been tradition to wait until Christmas Eve to hang them but this year with these new fairisle knitted grey beauties I couldn't wait to hang them by the fire.

All ready for Santa! fa la la la la la la...

{This post was sponsored by The White Company but as always I would never ever work with companies I don't truly love. I've been buying TWC for years and years so all opinions are 100% my own}
