Birthday // Choosing Thoughtful Gifts with notonthehighstreet*

August 14, 2018

August brings my husband's birthday and so I like to get organised ahead of time to plan a couple of surprises. Whilst he would always declare that he never needs or wants anything, my Mum has instilled a love of present buying in me, that feeling of joy as you choose a gift for somebody you love. Even if it's small, finding something which is perfectly suited to them and having a gift you can wrap makes a birthday so much more special. I'm taking Ben away for a night this year, as I do most years, but I still always want him to unwrap a couple of things too to try and show him even just a tiny token of how much I love him. Buying for men though is hard! So I turned to notonthehighstreet for their huge range of thoughtful gifts where there's truly something unique for everyone and every occasion.

Here's what I chose. I'm very conscious that presents should be thoughtful and fun but also useful. I thought long and hard about my husband's birthday this year. His one true love is his passion for growing and so birthday's for him tend to feature something garden/allotment/greenhouse related.

I thought about this plant subscription which would make a really great gift but our house/greenhouse is pretty much overflowing with plants as it is! So whilst these look like mini succulents in terracotta pots, they're actually rich chocolate cakes - pairing up as a birthday cake along with a fun present idea. I can't believe how lifelike they look and know he'll appreciate the artwork behind it too. - I was also tempted with this real set too and dotting them in amongst the cakes!

We're both big fans of books in this house, especially those that look good on a shelf so I thought that this notebook set would be perfect. And he can then write notes/lists on all his favourite things.
Notonthehighstreet have such a great range of gifts like this that can be personalised, and it makes it so much more special and thoughtful. With this set, I got to choose the colours, he's definitely a green kinda guy {I remember the bold green he painted his house when I first met him!}, the names for the notebooks {Allotment/House Plants/Greenhouse/Travel/Recipes} and then added his initials onto the spine.

It's no secret that we're both huge travel lovers and so I thought about a couple of gifts around a travel theme too. He got a new passport last month for the first time in 10 years so this passport cover will keep it looking shiny for a while longer and distinguish it from mine when we're in a rush at the airport. But of course, most of all, I chose this because it's such an adorable idea, being able to sew where you've been on the leather cover. I chose the navy with the gold thread and it comes on a super cute aeroplane to keep the needle and thread in.

Likewise, when we were away last, I realised just how old and worn {and seriously uncool!} his backpack had become. A Birthday is surely an excuse for a new one and I really loved this grey and leather version that will fit his laptop in for travelling, as a carry on plane bag or for weekends away. I think I'll wrap all the presents and put them inside this.

I'm guessing that your partner would like completely different things to mine, but that's why I love notonthehighstreet so much with thoughtful gifts to choose for all. I found it especially easy to find these bits by using some of the filters and suggestions like the 'gifts by recipients' page or 'gifts by interest' e.g. foodies, cyclists or drink connoisseurs to name a few. How personal and special is this home/anniversary/birthday gift too like this gorgeous Bus Blind location print .

I hope my husband will adore receiving these as much as I love giving them. I love celebrating loved ones with original, thoughtful and memorable gifts to try and show them how much I care.
