Travel // Little Norfolk Cottage

August 11, 2018

Last weekend, we packed our bags for a long weekend in North Norfolk. Probably the first English trip we haven't had to take wellies and raincoats on for a while, the forecast set to be hot and sunny! We really love that area of Norfolk and have enjoyed visiting a few times over the years so we were looking forward to going back. It's really lovely to return somewhere where you have such happy memories from past trips and to revisit some favourite places, but equally know that you're about to start a new trip and memories too. We were excited to stay at Little Norfolk Cottage {after our visit to the sister Little Cotswold Cottage last summer - both owned & lovingly renovated by the gorgeous Zara and her husband}. Some more photos of the cottage below if you'd like to see, and I'm working on a post with the rest of our trip and all of our favourite Norfolk spots...

Set in Docking, a small quiet village, you're in the perfect location to explore all that the area has to offer. We particularly liked being so close to areas like Thornham, Old Hunstanton and Brancaster which we hadn't been to before. Along with Burnham Market being the next village along. Every drive out takes you through miles of open fields {full of asparagus and corn} and flat countryside, those huge Norfolk skies that the area is famous for. There's a little Spar store walking distance in the village {past a quintessentially British duck pond} but you'll need a car to explore the rest of Norfolk and get around.

If you follow Zara & her husband on their Little Norfolk Cottage instagram page you'll see what an incredible job they've done converting this corner house from an unloved dated house into a charming cottage. No details have been spared, from the cute bee door knocker {like we have at home!}, to installing blush pink panelling in the bedroom, a rolltop bath and dreamy huge shower.

It's a true home away from home. Small enough to be cosy for two {I always find it hard to find beautiful places for couples} but with three bedrooms meaning you could come with friends or family. There are two double bedrooms and one bunk room.

Interior inspiration aplenty.

Both the bedrooms have big wall mounted TVs for cosy netflix viewing {so many cottages we've stayed at only have a TV downstairs and we're used to having one in our room at home!}.

The kitchen is fully equipped with things like a Nespresso coffee machine, an amazon Alexa for playing music whilst you cook and crucially for us, a Dishwasher! We were left a little welcome pack with bread, milk and some yummy treats. It's all so stylish and modern yet with some vintage details that make it feel more homely. We loved the scaffold board shelves above the sink.

The bathroom is cleverly designed, being on the corner of the house with curved walls and you all know how much I love a rolltop bath...

The lounge a cosy spot to curl up with a film and shutters ready to shut the world out. It's the kind of cottage which is perfect for all seasons. Although I would say that if you were coming with another couple, there's only one sofa {the other seating is cool retro cinema style seating} which wouldn't be that comfy for all sitting in for an evening.

There's a big farmhouse table for special dinners in the kitchen diner next to the log burner.

And so many fun details that my husband was a huge fan of like this basketball net above the stairs, and the old fashioned sweets!

I wanted to steal these tins!

So many thoughtful touches dotted around.

Oh and THE comfiest bed that felt like a hotel with really silky high thread count bedding. We both slept so well both nights during our stay.

This bunk room is adorable. It's really child friendly with micro-scooters to use during your stay along with a bag of toys you can borrow.

We had such a dreamy couple of days here and just wish we'd have booked longer! It's the perfect base for beaches aplenty, all of the amazing Norfolk foodie scene, sweet little towns, that ideal mix of countryside & sea, unique interior stores, long walks, fish & chips and special sunset skies. Will share our favourite spots and the rest of our weekend in the next post.

You can find more details on Little Norfolk Cottage on their website here. And there's an extra 10% off all bookings between January and May next year with the code EARLYBIRD2019 if you're looking to book a mini break.

{A huge thank-you to Zara for having us! I was a guest of Little Norfolk Cottage but as always would never share anywhere I didn't truly love. All opinions are my own}
