Food - Strawberry Flan
April 16, 2015I posted this photo a few weeks ago on my Instagram before a dinner party and a few of you have asked for the recipe, so here it is. It's barely a recipe as it's super easy but still impressive, yummy and light that makes for a perfect dessert for summer bbq's.
You will need;
- 2 boxes of strawberries
- A ready made flan case
- Red quick gel {I use one sachet of Green's}
- Cream/Ice cream to serve.
I didn't actually take during photos but it's simple.
-Hull your strawberries and cut them in half and place down in your flan case starting at the edges going round in a circle and work your way in. All strawberries are different sizes and shapes so don't worry about making a perfect puzzle, as long as you cram as many as you can in it doesn't matter!
-Then make your quick jel with the instructions on the back of the packet. Add the powder to a saucepan with 200ml of cold water and 25g of sugar, heat to boiling whilst stirring continuously.
-Boil for one minute and then remove from the heat, setting a timer for 10 minutes. Stir a few times after each minute counts down. This is important for it to cool evenly. Once it's thickened up after 10 minutes, pour onto your flan slowly. If it sinks straight through to the sponge it's not cool enough so wait for a few more minutes. If it forms jelly over your fruit then carry on pouring making sure everywhere is covered.
Leave in the fridge until you're ready to serve - it will keep well for up to a day {and tastes delicious once the jelly has all sunk into the sponge in a few days time!}.
- Serve with ice cream or cream.
Also just googled Green's quick jel and they have the recipe written here which might be better than my ramblings!
Strawberries are my favourite, especially on a hot summers day.
